As you may have seen over the last couple of weeks, CCM Chairman Ken Blackwell has been all over Fox News attacking ACORN for their voter fraud practices in key swing states.  Taking on ACORN is a major battle, and I appreciate all the groups out there who are hammering away.   The bad news it, there are plenty of other fights to pick with these groups, some of which seemingly take their fundraising cues from the Question Mark Guy.   Take a look at PIRG (Ralph Nader's group) and the Legal Services Corporation (Hillary' Clinton's group) -  two Leftist organizations that rely on government handouts and "dues" to fight their battles against conservative, American values.

Now when I was elected to Congress, there was nothing I wanted to do more than eliminate these types of socialist programs, not to mention the larger ones, like the Department of Education.  What we conservatives learned the hard way is that organizations like this were just powerful enough to frighten moderate Republicans into leaving them alone, and not allowing us with enough votes to zero them out.  We were able to slow them down a bit, but now conservatives have the opportunity to use ACORN's media attention to make an example of liberal excess and efforts to undermine conservative principles, the free market, and individual liberty.

This is one of many reasons we have to build a real conservative movement, not just a loose coalition of single issue groups. We will never be able to compete with the huge and powerful Leftist movement until we are aware of what exactly it is they are doing.  We started with CCM, which gives us a real grassroots organization that builds a political movement, not just a cause. But we need more.  Conservatives have no communications/research group that rivals what the Left has in the Media Fund, CREW, and Media Matters, etc. We need what I call an "Action Tank" that will take the policy and research of the Right and put it, and our elected officials, to work.  When we come together and share the resources of new organizations with the many single issue groups that have dominated the conservative political scene, we will once again become an organized force that will compete with, and clobber, the Left. Until then, we will be forced to continue our current operations within the movement: complain, whine, and lose.

Two Wrongs
Back in 2004, Ken Blackwell, Mr. Diebolt, and the Republican dominated government brought in the state of Ohio for George W. Bush. How did they do it? Let me count the ways: Long lines in inner-city precincts, challenging perfectly qualified voters, intimidating others, dirty tricks, bad voting machines, you name it. Death by a thousand cuts. Now Ohio is clearly going for a Democrat, and they're doing it by many of the same steam-rolling techniques the Right used so well four years ago. I say turnabout is fair play. Go ahead and whine, suckers. Meanwhile, the Democrats will do the heavy lifting and rebuild America, a process that could have started four years ago had not the Republicans stole the election.

No, two wrongs don't make a right, but in some cases it can sure feel good!

Prescription for a new democratic country:

(1) Restore confidence in the voting process.

(2) End the Electoral College. (One man one vote sounds more like democracy to me.)

(3) A one-day national primary, followed by run-off elections as needed till a majority is reached. (No state gets more influence than any other and everyone gets to vote for the person they want.)

Earth to Planet Gene, all investigations
prove your comments false. Voter fraud is the stock and trade of the Democrap party since at least the 1960 theft of the election for Kennedy. The evidence points to Democrap voter fraud on an alarming level and they are finally getting around to using the RICO act to fully prosecute your heros.

Follow the money
Many of these organizations receive government money. Cut off that funding and it will go a long way to curtailing these activities.

Hey Gene
You got no proof, you're just going on your emotions of what might've happened in Ohio. Typical liberal maneuver. Bush won fair and square, TWICE! stick that in your cap.

If you want to restore confidence in the voting process, go talk to Obama and tell him to reign in his pro-Obama group, ACORN.

Retain the Electoral College
Planet Gene, you couldn't more wrong. Our Constitution enshrines and enhances a federal republic, not a classical democracy. Remember, democracies, which effectively are only mob rule, quickly collapse in two primary manners: 1) the tyranny of the majority, or 2) when the mob determines they can vote themselves funds directly from the public treasury.

Ironically, the mainline media and big government have allied to approach causing the tyranny of the majority. And big government and the lawyers are getting more and more bold regarding their earmarks, so we may face the Jeffersonian option of rebellion within a matter of years.

As to your points,
1) Restore confidence through rigorous voter registration and verification; Hardcopy verification of electronic ballots, paper ballots where appropriate; nationwide timely acceptance and verification of active duty and other absentee ballots. NO same day registration/voting except for active duty / absentee ballots mailed within the time frame appropriate for verification.

2) We wouldn't have made it to the War of 1812, let alone to now, without the Electoral College. The only way small population states retain any voting clout is through the electoral college, and that is what is was designed to provide. We are not a classic democracy, we are a Republic. Get over it or get lost.

3) Sounds very parliamentarian. Perhaps simply shortening our official campaign time to three months or so, including the primaries/caucuses. You must realize the mainline media thrives on our current attenuated process, don't you? Or you can simply try a Commonwealth country.

Republic Yadda Yadda Yadda
hrsdad, yeah, I've heard all that about this being a republic, not a democracy. I'd still prefer a democracy, since I trust the people. It'll only be when the people in states like North Dakota come to understand that direct voting for the President is in their best interests that we will finally be rid of that dumb Electoral College. No, I'm not holding my breath. We've got a long way to go to set things right.

We need a Conservative Candidate
It sure would help if we had a Conservative candidate. John McCain is not a Conservative.
It would also help if we taxpayers did not have to support ACORN with our tax dollars. Tom, how did that happen? Apparently, it's been going on for years.

Conservatism vs Extremism
"The huge and powerful leftist movement"??? I am sure you actually believe that. But it shows just how extremist you are if you really think such a thing exists in America today.

The desire for a "conservative candidate"--you don't think John McCain is a conservative? Again, it just shows how extremist you people are.

Conservatives, including Tom Delay, held near total political power in America for most of the last eight years. And just look where it got us. That is why you will be out on your ear in three months.

when are the cowards going to stop
The only reason these democrats are winning is because they are playing dishonorable tricks while the mccain ticket is playing fair but when is this going to end
when are the liberals going to surrender
The United States is too young to know the true acts of the kiberals
then they frame us
it ahs to end but how are the conservatives going to pull this off

ACORN Isn't the Problem
ACORN is trying to correct its systemic problem of hiring people who fake voter registration entries in order to make their quota and get paid. It isn't going to get corrected overnight. In the meantime, you can rest assured that voter registration fraud does NOT equal voter fraud. The vast majority of bad names on registration forms will not actually vote -- because they don't know they're registered! As usual, the Right is spending a lot of its precious time tilting at windmills and not doing what it needs to do to win -- getting out its own vote and making sure the voters know what it stands for.

Connor asks, "Why don't Americans understand that the conservatives are the just cause...?"

Could it be the recession we're in is giving Americans pause about the amount of unbridled power we've been giving the monied classes lately? Americans don't care what's ideologically pure or right. They don't care about laissez faire. They want to go to work, and they want their government to make that happen. So far, Obama looks like the logical choice.

Power
Today's (17 Oct 08) Wall Street Journal's main editorial lists succinctly all the things a veto-proof Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate would give America. It makes interesting reading, but I can't help but wonder if many otherwise conservative people wouldn't really want some of these things, like greater efforts against global warming and greater power to unions. Conservatives' mind-meld with middle America has always been a tenuous thing, seems to me.
