Today is the second anniversary of my resignation announcement, and I want to put something to rest.  In nearly every newspaper article I read mentioning my decision to leave Congress, never once do they get it right.  More often than not, the article states that I was either forced or driven out of office under a cloud of scandal.  Let me make one thing clear – there was no force in it, and no real pressure to leave other than the pressure I personally felt dragging my family and the 22nd District through a very divisive and costly race.   The decision was all my own and on my terms, and I do not regret it.   I would also like to point you to my interview with Mike Allen, who at the time was reporting for Time magazine, and my video resignation announcement, which I completed in the first take, in the dead of the night, with a lump in my throat.

Since leaving office, my life has changed drastically.  First, I lost weight, which was a nice way to transition.  I wrote a book, which I think only those who really love me or really hate me read, and I started organizing conservative activists in an effort to revitalize the movement I have been working with for 20 plus years.  I’ve been raising money to help conservatives combat the growing number of liberal groups and union-backed political activities.  I quickly started to blog at www.tomdelay.com, and then after taking a break to get CCM up and running, I transitioned over to Townhall where I feel very at home with my thoughts and opinions.  It's been a very busy and interesting time , and I hope you all will join me as we continue to fight in this new arena.

Keep the Faith,

Tom DeLay

Thanks for the Link
Tom, I'm so glad you got a new website home. I've never stopped clicking on tomdelay.com to see if it had been revived.

On the old site, we never really had a chance to comment much on your book, WHICH I READ. I was delighted with it, and with many of the things you said, as well as your candor about your past. Alas, much of it has been forgotten over time, but your personal talking points of conservatism were eye-openers. I hope we can have an opportunity to go over some of that philosophy some time soon. In fact, a thread for each point wouldn't be too far out of line, would it?

Conservatism will have to re-invent itself soon or face extinction. It sure took a wrong turn with Bush and the neocons, don't you think. Where exactly do you think Bush and his band of crazies went wrong-est? I'd be interested to know.

Again, welcome back to the blogoshere, and all my best!

In my opinion--towards this last comment about reinvention--I don't think that McCain is it. The only thing McCain has going for himself is the fact that the Democrats have turned into a three ring circus and are busily destroying all credibality as the president of anything.

Anyway welcome back along with all my best.

If He Really Means It
Victoria, I'm interested in McCain's assertion that he won't help ANYBODY in a financial crisis, not rich, not poor. This is great libertarian stuff, worthy of Goldwater himself (another great Arizonan!), and so I'm heartened to think that maybe -- just maybe -- all this kow-towing to the Religious Right may be just a ruse to get votes from that quarter, and that when he becomes President, the Evangelicals are going to be on their own (as they should be, IMHO).

Well, better that than Bush's cynical exploitation of his Christian supporters. I kinda like straight talk, myself.

Straight talk--we'll see

Yea, no help for anyone--unless they're an illegal immigrant. I wonder if he learned his lesson after he put his head together with Teddy Kennedy and tried to ram through that bill. I want to reach across the aisle--he said--there are some things regarding this country you don't reach across the aisle on.

Illegal Immigrants
Victoria, it's pretty obvious The People Have Spoken on this. They don't want illegal immigrants around to underbid us in the job market, and they don't want them to partake of our tax dollars -- even if it means kicking some poor kids out of school here. Any politician, including McCain OR Kennedy, who ignores this simple imperative does so at their own political risk. Sooner or later, America will rouse itself and rid itself of the illegals.

What will be fun is to watch some middle class folks, used to having their lawn mowed for next to nothing, suddenly having to mow it themselves or pay dearly for the service. It'll also be fun to watch all the rich people whine when their profit margins shrink because they have to pay legal Americans a bit more per hour. The poor dears...!

Don't bet on it.

McCain said he heard us after the last amnesty fight. He heard two things right. We want the border secured and we don't trust them. There apparently was alot he didn't hear.

He hired Juan Hernandez, who represents foreign nationals illegally in our country as his hispanic outreach, instead of reaching out to someone from "You Don't Speak For Me" a group of citizens of hispanic descent who oppose illegal aliens.

He said a couple of weeks ago he would sign McCain/Kennedy if it were put on his desk.

He still thinks surrender (amnesty) is the only option. If elected, he will give us no more enforcement than Bush has.

All the Democrats are worse, they are salivating over what they rightly see as there new permanent majority, if they can get them legalized.

Smiling Juan Hernandez
In case you don't know him, he used to work for the Mexican govt., lately he has been shilling for "rights" for illegal aliens in this country. He has said he wants Mexicans to remain Mexicans even if they are living here. His loyalties are to Mexico, not U.S.

His agenda is "Mexico First", apparently, so is McCain's.

Questions for illegal alien apologists like John McCain:

Why does The National Council of the Race (la raza in spanish) and the Chamber of Commerce get to negotiate a "Comprehensive Shafting of The American Citizens" behind closed doors? Since when does an organization representing foreign nationals breaking our laws get to rewrite our immigration laws to suit the lawbreakers? Isn't this akin to allowing NAMBLA to rewrite our laws regarding child predators? Or allowing organized crime syndicates to rewrite racketeering, gambling, prostitution, and extortion laws?

We The People are being told by our representatives that we should sit down and shut up while they invite in the entire world. We The People should get some say in this matter. Another amnesty will set off a stampede like we have never seen before. There is not much time to save our country. All the power and money are on the side of shoving this amnesty down our throats. The RNC wants an amnesty candidate, don't vote for one.

The Stupid Party

The RNC wants an amnesty candidate.

Don't vote for one.

Another amnesty will result in Democrat majorities for decades, or until they are supplanted by the La Raza Party, why doesn't the RNC know that? How stupid do you have to be to import voters for the opposition at the same time you alienate your own voters? Nominating any of the amnesty supporters is a losing proposition, we will not support them. If the GOP intends to surrender our sovereignty and abandon the rule of law, they will find in November 2008, that they still have their big money/cheap labor donors, but they do not have voters. GOP-RIP

You are exactly right. But who we gonna vote for--Nader?

I am afraid those are the only kinds of politicians there are and it is going to be too late when America rouses itself. Everyone is engrossed in their ipods and big screen TVs and where should we go on our next vacation. The only thing I can say is that those in power are sinking this country, however, when they do in the end they sink themselves too because I guess they just think money will keep appearing magically somehow. They will be kowtowing to the likes of Castro or Kim Jong Il(sp)or Osama bin Laden or they will be shot on the spot because with those types there is no more freedoms of any kind. But then everyone seems to think socialism is where it is at or if your dissatisfied with the GOP then we'll vote democratic and see if they can do better. You know what they say about the definition of insanity....that is exactly why the democrats have control of the houses right now.

IPods, Big-Screen TVs, and Vacations
And don't forget the internet, Victoria. We are a nation of fragmented interests these days, and we are bored and cynical about everything. There's so much to be angry about, it's tiring for most of us just to think about it. No wonder the politicians have a field day with us. We don't know where to start.

Solution to Bio Fuels,
First on me, I am not a kook, and am a dedicated Republican and the only New Yorker who was on the Mighty Texas Force in 2003, helped turn Ohio and went to the boots ball, as well as Tex/AZ ball and Task Force Ball.
If someone other then McCain was our stardard bearer I would be sending this to them.
On the current fuel situation, I agree that we have to go with Bio Fuel since the Dems will not let us open Alaska or build a refineries and in any case even if we could would take ten years.
The current use of corn and other crops for Bio Fuel is causing farm prices to go up and adding to the problem. The solution ot this is so simple that I do not know why the President or the Secy of Agr. did not come forth unless worried by lobbyist. We currently give billions to non farmers to not grow crops. It is time to stop giving this money away and have this land cultivated into corn, soy and other crops that will be turned to bio fuels. This would stop the shortage of these products and give us at the same time the new raw materials for bio petro.
The money that we have been paying to not grow crops can be used for seed to give to the persons who have been getting rich by not growing crops. This hand out will only be for the first crop. This is a win win situation.
If they do not want to grow crops on their land, and use it for something else, they should be reminded that they were getting paid to not grow for decades and could have saved the tax payers money by using this land years ago for other projects and not putting in crops now will not look to good on their records.
Further if they want to sell the land rather then produce crops, get the oil companies such as Exxon to buy the land and to start growing the crops and getting into the bio fuel business and please the stock holders as well as their opponents.

Only Alternatives Oil or Bio Fuels?
I think solar power is an option too, and a more viable (i.e., cost-effective) alternative as time wears on. The market, in which I have every confidence, will show it. Keep an eye on Big Energy, though: They will make it hard to run windmills and solar panels so they can keep their obscene profits high. What if every community in the country removed restrictions on having high windmills in homeowners' backyards? Would the power grid eventually go begging for customers? I'd love to test that hypothesis.

But yes, in an era when we are as likely to be overrun by the Mongol hordes for our food as much as for our money and good looks, it just makes sense to stop paying "farmers" not to grow food.
