There is a crisis of confidence in this country.  The lack of confidence is not in the free market.  It is a lack of confidence in the Obama administration...is it any wonder?  The Obama administration has quickly proven they have no idea why we are in this mess, refuse to admit any mistakes, and clearly aren’t sure what to do about it.  Their lack of understanding was especially noticeable when I watched the Sunday shows.

Obama spokesmen Larry Summers, Austan Goolsbee, and Christina Romer -all academics or bureaucrats – have little to no credibility on the issue, and it shows.  None of them have run a business. None of them have had to make a payroll. None of them have had to make a sale.  None of them have had to make a fiduciary decision that would impact their own money.  Their worldviews are not capable of understanding the fundamentals of a free market. You add Secretary Geithner and President Obama to the list and you can see why the future looks bleak.

Austan Goolsbee on  Fox News Sunday: “the market for credit to small businesses has completely frozen”. False.  I have spoken to business owners and bankers around the country, and they tell me that banks are making loans, but there are simply new standards for these loans. Instead of lending to people who can’t afford it, those who have good credit are getting the loans.  Also very few businesses are simply not asking for increased lines of credit when President Obama is threatening higher taxes and more regulations.  They’re business-minded, after all, and they know his policies will harm small businesses in the long run.

Christina Romer on Meet the Press: “we have our eyes on the fundamentals” of the economy.  If there was any truth to that, then why are they driving up the federal debt by astronomical amounts, and driving business out of the capital markets?  Inflation and interest rates will go through the roof.  Why are they expanding the welfare state?  Why are they raising taxes during a recession? Why are they threatening oppressive regulations in the face of a recession? Why are they tilting our labor markets toward the socialist union controls?

Larry Summers on This Week: "we need to have a so-called regulation regime” that allow the federal government to make business decisions for private companies.  Now this is crazy, even for the liberals.  Never in our history has it been suggested that the federal government should start vetoing decisions or directly influencing the private sector to the extent Summers is suggesting.  Regulation of fraud and safety concerns can be debated, but regulating pure market forces?  What a catastrophe.  That will create even more disaster for our economy.

The economic fundamentals of freedom, freedom, and more  freedom are the only way to ensure capital and market forces join together to grow us out of this mess. The only way to get out of this recession is to get the government out of the way.  Less taxation, smaller government, fewer regulations…confidence will return and our recovery will be quick.   But I, like the rest of America, have no confidence in this administration to get it right.

Yeh, right.

Just how wimpy do you think we are? We voted for
him. We believe in him and his goals. We don't
expect it to be done in 100 days or even 100 weeks.

The anger, as opposed to crisis of confidence, is
for the bonuses. That is what this outrage is all
about. Haven't you figured that out yet!

The bonuses
Tammy: You can't have ignored all the reports that Democrat Chris Dodd wrote the amendment to the bill that SPECIFICALLY permitted the same bonuses that Democrats seem so surprised to discover. They are simply trying to play the class envy card. The key to that smoke screen is that your life won't be better if the people who earned their bonuses get it stolen from them, but the bureaucrats to purposefully authorized it for them can somehow come across as fiscally responsible and morally straight. Their two-faced posturing would be ludicrous if they didn't do it so conscious-free. And they actually get away with it. Or act is if they do.
SJA writes: Wednesday, March, 18, 2009 9:33 AM
Confidence
Confidence for this administration is eroding quickly. Obama and the group have played their hand just a little too soon. What other reason would Dodd have had to add his amendment if not to protect the very ones that helped him get elected. If Obama had read this pork laden bill perhaps he would have been more informed. Obama does not care about this he only cares that he got caught. Geithner on the other hand was well aware of how these bonuses are paid and for him to act like he just found out is insulting to all of us. I just wonder how many of you that voted for Obama would love to go back and change your mind.

"Confidence for this administration is eroding quickly."

Sure, it is. That's why Gallup shows a NINETY-ONE PERCENT APPROVAL RATING for Obama by democrats, FIFTY-NINE PERCENT by independents, and even TWENTY-SIX PERCENT by REPUBLICANS.

"I just wonder how many of you that voted for Obama would love to go back and change your mind."

I can only approximate, but I'd say ZERO. I'll bet Obama would win by a wider margin if the vote happened now.

DeLay, on the other hand, couldn't get elected dogcatcher.

"I would say the trend is DOWNWARD."

Well, sure his numbers are going down, especially among republicans. WE WANT HIM TO DO THINGS THAT REPUBLICANS DON'T LIKE. He's gone from 29% of republicans strongly disapprove to 54%; that's great, and it could well account for the entire drop in total approval. That's why we elected him, and he's doing what we want done, in spades.

You guys need to learn how "the most liberal senator in the history of the universe" acts as President.

Almost two months ago since the coronation of Barry was 1-21-09, not quite two months, but I thought a professor wouldnt mind the rounding.

I gotta give you credit, only a died in the wool liberal or soros employee could see that number dropping 13 points as a positive thing...but still it is a far cry from the NINETY ONE percent you presented...

"wouldnt mind the rounding."

Selective rounding, dishonestly favoring your argument.

"a far cry from the NINETY ONE percent you presented."

That's what Gallup says. Even Rasmussen has 87%, which I'm sure we can round up. That figure has moved only a tiny bit since he took office.

My point is that his loss in ratings is due entirely to republicans, and WHO CARES WHAT REPUBLICANS THINK?

30% of americans strongly disapprove of how the annointed one is handling his job thus far. There is no way he has the approval of 87% of everyone and anything...

91%/87% of DEMOCRATS. You really don't understand how percentages work, do you?

I should have realized that from the way you rounded 65% up to 70%, left 57% unrounded, and then subtracted the two to get 13% instead of 8%.

I'll bet that two-thirds of the 30% that strongly disapprove of Obama are the same people as the 20% that approved of Bush for his last year or so. Have an adult explain that calculation to you. It appears that Obama has a higher approval rating AMONG REPUBLICANS than Bush did.

Let the Era of "Oppressive" Regs Begin!
Tom asks the musical question, "Why are they threatening oppressive regulations in the face of a recession?"

Well, look. A lot of people are now more or less forced to save for their retirements by participating in 401k's. Most folks who have done so have seen a siginicant percentage of their retirement savings vanish in the last few months, the result of a lack of fundamental regulation in the marketplace. Crooks had their way, and now we're all paying for it.

So, you say, let the marketplace fix that by allowing nature to take its course, by letting people migrate to safer investments. The old, criminal/incompetent investment vehicles will wither away for lack of participation by people who have been burned by them.

The only trouble with that scenario, as we all have learned the hard way, is: YOU CAN'T TRUST RICH PEOPLE WHO WANT YOU TO INVEST YOUR MONEY WITH THEM. There are no exceptions to this rule. As we are discovering, FAR TOO MANY ENTREPRENEURS ARE CONGENITALLY DEVIOUS. They must be in order to maintain and build their wealth. Sooner or later, they have to lie. And they will always take their cut first.

Those are not "oppressive" regulations, Tom. They're NECESSARY ones, as has now been proven irrefutably by the last 20 years of de-regulation. Look at the widespread damage Bernie Madoff did, a clear result of no regulatory body bothering to care enough to finger his scam.

I don't know about you, but that's all I -- and a lot of other Americans -- need to know.

Obama's doing everything right -- or should I say Right. Like Clinton stealing Dole's thunder by signing a Federal gasoline tax reduction into law during the '96 campaign, Repubs are left sputtering about how Obama is handling the auto industry mess, prit-near perfectly. Repubs would have done the exact same thing, except they wouldn't have had the nerve to fire Wagoner.

Sad Sad Dichotomy Players
hi there....just thought I would chime in....I came to this site because I had a "where are they now" moment with Tom Delay. I am glad to see that he is still up to his old tricks and not cruising the country with Gary Coleman or Danny Bonaduce! Keep it up! BTW....I read on wikipedia that this blog is ghost written (not actually Tom Delay).

The only reason why people post here (aside from my post, which I offer as a way to elevate ourselves above the needless fray) is because of the successful application of the Good vs. Bad dichotomy to contemporary American society. Applying dichotomies in societies are very useful for gaining control of the natural mob/team mentality of the average hairless monkey (human). Christianity, which was rejected by the Republicans to a great extent during the last election, is another good example of control through dichotomy (be good or you are headin' to the lake of fire...blah blah).
Bottom line....Republicans say democrats are bad and Democrats say Republicans are bad. Both parties control the media through their influence with industry and scare the crap out of people who dont have enough intelligence or time to seek out information and make up their own minds. Unfortunately for the Republicans, they were unable to control their bad behavior, like Tom Delay, and got a spanking in the last election as the wheels started coming off the cart (economy)....with George Bush, his oil buddies, and rich bankers laughing all the way to their "bank". Does it surprise anyone that stricter bankruptcy laws were put in place in 2005?

Small Government
No way would Tom Delay ever say anything like that, Joycey. I mean, even the most liberal among us don't believe that government should be as big as it is at the moment. We all hope that the present size and scope, dictated as it is by the mistakes made by W and the real needs of the populace, isn't what we'll be stuck with forever.

Hint: Once reformed, socialized health care will not only be cheaper and more responsive, it won't need nearly so much bureaucracy to keep it running. Just think: All those people now sitting at their desks at Kaiser Permanente spending their day denying claims -- they'll all be gone! All that money going to Kaiser's stockholders -- all gone! The government can manage a fair and balanced health care system for a tiny fraction of the present cost. Open your mind to it and it will make sense to you.

Size of government isn't the point. The efficiency of a system that doesn't work is.

A First Impression Lost
As each day slides by, the Obama administration attempts to make a first impression in order to convince the American public they are educated and experienced enough to steer this mighty vessel we call the United States of America.

Unfortunately, Obama’s chance to impress the masses of his ability to guide America forward, in a positive way, has slipped through this administrations fingers and historians now have the true story which they will eventually write.

America is headed straight into a fierce storm, and she will take on a large amount of water. It is during these dismal times she must, again, find her courage and stand tall with a strong backbone to fight of a Domestic Enemy who hates this blessed country.

As this administration, who is clueless in economics and how the cogs of business must work in harmony to assure a productive and successful society, carries out their destructive policies, Americans must rise up in their communities to re-establish their beliefs, their faith and their confidence that true leaders will come forward to save this great nation once again.

May God bless each and every one of you as He shines his love over our great nation.

Crisis
"The Obama administration has quickly proven they have no idea why we are in this mess, refuse to admit any mistakes, and clearly aren’t sure what to do about it."

They are relying on the economic ignorance of the general public to get them through. They have this bizarro narrative about how the Bush administration spent too much money and so now they must spend twice the money and increase the deficits to over double in order to 'fix' the problem with too much spending. They are living in some strange world where bad ideas become good ideas if you only magnify them. People are literally waiting for the stimulus, which doesn't exist, to kick in and 'fix' the economy. They believe this mental midgets who are speaking only to the political talking points and not to the economic realities. It's frustrating to watch.

Totally confident in Obama
If you teabaggers would get your metaphorical genitals out of each other's faces, you'd have a chance to actually listen to the intelligent rationale that Obama is employing to steer this huge ship that we've all been sinking on for the last 8 years away from the waterfall that we're heading over. Possibly the only overqualified person to be President we'll ever have the good fortune to experience, his speeches in the past several days have synopsized his Administration's plans for the only realistic way to get the US out of this economic mess. The Republican Party is toast - I can only laugh at the Party of No...Ideas, of ridiculous nonsense and sound bytes from the likes of DeLay and other "entertainers" like Beck, Shammity, and Oxy-Contin Limbo himself. But, Obama, on the other hand, above the fray, actually has a plausible plan. Instead of a ship, think of our economy like a plane. Engines sputtering, headed for the ground - once the fuel line is reconnected, you have to go full throttle to climb out of the dive. Obama is using the Fed for economic "spending" because it is the only entity on the face of the Earth that has the liquidity to inject capital anywhere! Hello? If you teabaggers actually have an alternate plan, let's hear it - otherwise, I'm going with Obama 100% - it makes sense, and it will work. If you're actually a bigot or a racist disguising as a teabagger, then teabag away with your favorite teabaggee. And if Texas wants to secede, please, GO...just leave us the rational parts of Austin, the high-tech zone, and a couple of steakhouses outside of Ft. Worth, OK? And if you don't want any government money for your states, give it to me or other states that do - we'll take it gladly because it's the only way to recover financially given the past 8 years of misspending and greed and politically-oriented shortsightedness that pervades conservatism in this country.

We all define "Patriot" differently, I suppose. If you anti-Obama-oids (a euphemism for racists) can come up with a better plan (other than whining) let's hear it! Once you wake up, you may notice that BushCo and right-wing conservatism has already just about turned this country into a Neo-Fascist state, led by BigOil and BigAgra, and BigPharma. The "freedom" that you claim exists, only exists because right-wing conservatism and greed-bound ties have led you like apathetic sheep with blinders wherever they want to. They've convinced you that Big Business will help you - just let them make all the money and eventually it'll trickle down to you. Right.
Brilliant. You can remain uninformed or you can get some facts - Obama is doing a great job, and most people in this country know it. If you claim to be a patriot, then act like one - help to move this country forward in a tolerant and progressive way, like our founders intended, not backwards into some white supremacist nightmare.

The Party's Over
A few years back I marched, for the first time in my 60 years, on Washington to end the war in Iraq. A huge number of people showed up, and we thought we had made our point. But nobody in power paid us any attention, and subsequent demonstrations grew progressively less well-attended. In a word, we gave up.

And I predict that the same will happen with the Teabagger Revolution, only because nobody's actually getting killed through a perceived failed policy, it'll probably die faster than the anti-Iraq War protest.

Also, some pretty nasty people came out for the anti-war march, people with their own questionable agendas who I wished wouldn't have bothered the rest of us. The Teabaggers had their fair share of same on the other side, and, knowing that it's a free country and you really can't keep such people away, I don't intend to criticize the entire Teabag movement for the fringe weirdos who crashed the party. After all, I think the Teabaggers are making a valid point (for once).

So, PEACE, my friends, let's work together and get this recession behind us as fast as possible, so we really can cut back on Big Government. You can be a part of the solution (like the day traders re-entering the stock market) or you can be a part of the problem (like the SC governor who insists on spending his stimulus cash to pay down his state's debt). History won't be kind to the problem folks.

Tracy,

So you want to create more Government programs, grow government, by taking my money and giving it to people who become baby factories?

The liberals already are participating in this if you were not aware, which you obviously are not. It is called welfare, and they just brought it back, plus some. By you coming up with such a no-brainer only proves you are not anything close to being a Conservative, more like a Liberal Lampson relative.

I thought you wanted to shrink government? You were spouting about shrinking government 5% per year until you gained a 20% shrinkage on your web site.

So I assume you will run as an independent to try and take enough conservative votes away so the next shill for the Liberals can have a shot, right?

Plus, you are here on Congressman DeLay’s blog, typical liberal MO, trying to use the false charges as a sounding board to benefit you. More typical Liberal MO. Funny how after three years have gone by, The Liberal/Corrupt prosecutor never has set a trial date, something I believe is unconstitutional, when Congressman DeLay has been ready to defend himself for years now.
