Is there a more inspiring movie than Rocky? Everyone knows and loves the story of the underdog boxer seizing his once-in-a-lifetime chance to fight for the world heavyweight championship. This year’s Democrat presidential primary is turning out just like the first bout between Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed. It’s a grueling match in which neither fighter gives an inch, nor can he can knock the other out. Remember, Rocky lost that match, yet went on to become a great champion in sequels, while Apollo kept his belt but never won another fight.
The question conservatives should be asking is this: will the Democrats’ grueling, 15-round presidential primary produce a washed up champion or a colossus? Many conservatives are giddy about the bloodletting now between Senators Obama and Clinton, excited about poll numbers giving John McCain a fighting chance to beat them in November. The conventional wisdom is that this long, drawn-out fight will weaken the eventual nominee. I’m not so sure. It seems to me that as much fun as we’re all having watching Clinton and Obama gut-shoot each other across the country all spring, there are more important things to do. Two, to be specific.
First of all, conservatives need to remember everything Clinton and Obama have said since their grudge match turned ugly about three months ago. When the dust settles and one of them emerges as the Democrat nominee, we cannot allow them a honeymoon period to sweep all the ugliness of primary season under the rug. Barack Obama’s minister is an anti-American bigot, and Obama refused to condemn the man’s ministry of hate or apologize for generously funding it. Hillary Clinton is an unrepentant liar – the Bosnian sniper scandal only the latest example – whose inability to manage her campaign, her staff, and her sociopath husband should give pause to anyone who thinks there’s no difference between the choices this November.
Opinion sites like this one, as well as other conservative blogs, the Republican National Committee, and even Democrat researchers are going to be valuable resources for cataloguing all the misinformation and media spin that will follow the Democrats’ nominating convention. When the general election campaign begins in earnest and Clinton or Obama try to reframe their image for the American people, conservatives need to be armed with – and motivated by – the ugly truth.
Second, conservatives need to rally around the most conservative candidate remaining in the presidential contest, John McCain. My differences with Senator McCain are many and well known, but the fact of the matter is that he cannot defeat Clinton or Obama with conservatives grumbling on the sidelines. We cannot sit back and hope or expect Democrats to lose this election – we have to go out and win it.
We cannot know whether the Democrats’ slug-fest will leave their nominee bloodied and bruised, or if he’ll have a knock-out punch with John McCain’s name on it, but we do know this – whoever the nominee is, he’s going to have one helluva tough jaw.

As a member of the blue collar "working class," I can't believe that a presidential candidate would say the types of things that Obama has. "Clinging to my guns and religion?" Last time I checked, I was guaranteed a second amendment right, and this country was founded on faith. Pennsylvanians don't want a President that insults their character, and I hope this explodes again should Obama win the nomination. |

Grumble and we have the collective power of a melting snowman!
America is one of the few countries where citizens who see the political world differently can unite behind a candidate for the good of all.
What are we waiting for? Yes, its fun in a perverse sort of way to watch Hillary and Obama go after each other. But this isn't a high school fight but an election process with high stakes for the US and the entire world. What we do as an electorate, the person we select as the next president, has repercussions beyond our physical boundaries.
It is DANGEROUS for us as a GOP community to sit on our hands and be sadsacks. The other extreme is to furious at candidate X for what he did to my/your candidate Z as evidenced by the ongoing food fights between Mitt and Huck supportors (Disclaimer: I'm on the Romney side of these food fights but would rather skip this chapter and turn the page to wholeheartedly support John McCain.)
Time's a-wasting while we watch the H-O match up. We're not being victims of group think to unite and support John. It doesn't matter all the footnotes that got him and us (the GOP) to this point in time. We are all here so let's get to work and support and ELECT John McCain. |

Clinton-Obama in the fall. Clinton has the best chance of beating McCain and Obama must be on the ticket to pacify the far left and the black wings of the Dems.
The Dem leadership will eventually come to realize this and before the convention it will all be worked out. They must do this to prevent the splintering of the Dem coalitions.
Obama will go along because he will realize the wisdom of it. Also, as VP he is set up in the Dem party as a leader for the long haul, as well as being part of history.
Clinton-Obama will present McCain the greatest challenge and consequently who McCain picks for VP will be more important than usual. It will be vital that McCain pick a VP that will energize the right wing of the GOP with whom McCain is weak. McCain himself appeals strongly to the left wing of the GOP and the Reagan Democrats. It should be a real donnybrook this fall. The November results will be 50-49, but I cannot predict who will have the 50.

I really wish I could compromise and support the republican nominee this year. I have done this many times before but, McCain simply does not meet my minimum qualifications and they are not that tough. I voted for Bush twice with all his compassion (read liberal) attitudes. This nominee is simply too liberal to compromise with.
We all weigh the pros and cons in our minds. The potential good and the potential evil. A kind of all encompassing cost/benefit analysis. There is simply nothing much on the benefit side of John McCain to compensate for all the costs. The fact that the two candidates for the other party are worse does not change this in the slightest. The lesser evil is simply not lesser enough. |

Conservatives are going to have to re-explain -- patiently, at third-grade level -- why conservatism is right for America, at this time and at any time. Because America has just watched 7 years of bad conservative government, and they are wondering why they should vote conservative yet again. Name-calling (e.g., "liberal") and marginal issues (knocking Obama because of his pastor, or his lack of a flag pin, for pity's sake) will ultimately be shown for what they are: off the point. They are looking at issues. Real issues, like health care. McCain wants everyone to buy their own health insurance, but would allow companies to refuse to cover pre-existing conditions. Well, we all know how that figures into the conservative grand plan, but Middle America no longer does. All they know is that it looks like they're getting screwed. Again. So whip out your best justifications, dust them off, and send them into battle. The battle for America's hearts and minds will not be won with swift-boat maneuvers this time. It'll be won with cold, hard, tough-love ideology. |

"Conservative" Mr. Delay? You really think so?
I have had this nagging question in my mind ever since the McCain/Kennedy bill and it is "why would a former Vietnam vet/POW want to sell out the soveriegnty of this nation? Well, here is a web site that might explain it. I don't know--www.vietnamvetsagainstjohnmccain.com. It is very interesting reading. so planet gene: The battle for America's hearts and minds will not be won with swift-boat maneuvers this time. It'll be won with cold,hard,tough-love idealolgy.
I am hoping a swift-boat maneuver becomes a cold, hard, tough-love idealogy.

John McCain has not changed his mind about "Comprehensive Immigration Reform", amnesty, at all.
http://townhall.com/columnists/AmandaCarpenter/2008/03/28/b loggers_press_mccain_adviser_on_immigration “John McCain’s position on immigration is very clear and this a question that gets asked at townhall appearances everyday in media appearances and has answered the question at least a thousand times before the New Hampshire primary,” Schmidt said.
He explained, “Any person who supports John McCain’s campaigns is a subscriber to John McCain’s views"
A vote for McCain is a vote for surrender of your country.
Your vote for McCain will be used as proof that you want amnesty.
Many of us see another amnesty as the end of the Republic, the stampede it will set off will be overwhelming. If we don't stop the inundation none of the rest matters. We'll be a banana republic before the jihadis can get us. There will never be another GOP president or Congressional majority. Importing voters for the socialists is as stupid as it gets.
McCain keeps saying "Secure the border first". We know that he means amnesty next. The plan is to get the border state Gov's to declare the border secure. Conveniently, they are all on board the cheap labor express. Then his good friend Ted Kennedy will bring back McCain/Kennedy and McCain can provide his good friends across the aisle with their new permanent majority.
I will not vote for amnesty.

May Day "Immigration" rallies were a major bust.
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080501/D90D0M7O0.html
Chicago had 400,000 protestors in 2006, about 1,000 today. Maybe now that it has been explained to Mexican-Americans that these protests are not about rights for immigrants but for ILLEGAL immigrants, they aren't so thrilled about them. might as well carry placards reading "Please take my job away!" "Minimum wages are too much! I'm overpaid!" "We don't like having health benefits!"

wow do you really go on record here calling people liars and sociopaths? really bad form dude, really bad form. I have always wondered about your character Mr. DeLay, and now I find it here on your blog! Is the the lesson of "character assasination" one you learned from Rove or perhaps were you his teacher? either way I will look forward to your blog but hope that in the future you can get your points across without the character assasination technique. |
